Air Conditioner Maintenance

Wow! That was some heat coming through the valley. Summer is just starting, and I have gotten several calls for air conditioning units the past couple of days. Most of them just need to be cleaned. If you have a window/ wall unit, Mini split or whole house AC unit it needs to be cleaned. Air must be able to flow through your AC unit to do its best job. Step 1. turn the unit off and clean the outside unit with a water hose (careful not to spray into your home) once a month. Step 2 Inside remove the front grill and using a brush clean the inside unit at the beginning of each season. **Be gentle and DO NOT bend the fins** A vacuum with brush attachment is a great tool but you can also use a plastic bristle dish scrubbing brush. Step 3 Most units have an indoor filter, clean it once a month or replace it every three. Every home is different. If you have pets inside, you will likely have greater need then a home without pets. If you have a lot of dust that blows around your home, you will also have greater need to clean often. Step 4 Create a Calander reminder to perform these tasks and turn your AC unit back on. Performing these simple cleanings will increase efficiency, reduce operating cost and extend the life of your equipment.

These are some general steps, always follow manufacturers recommendations for your unit.
